Memory Thread: Make-believe Series
Introducing the element of texture to the photograph triggers a rediscovery of childhood imagination and helps the mind recall the memories of childhood play. The images in Memory Thread: Make-believe Series, each revisit the site of a memory, shared with me by women from my past. The textures of fabric remind me of my mother sewing, creating the atmosphere for me to recall my childhood. The act of embroidering the memories into the photograph imprinted those stories in my own mind as if I experienced them myself. Printed on silk organza, the materiality of the images acts as a metaphor for the delicate quality of memories - especially those of childhood. Being able to connect back to our childhood helps us see those special places from our past with a rekindled sense of innocence.
